From the City of West Hollywood:
December 26, 2019
The City of West Hollywood will host its eighth annual clothing drive for the Los Angeles LGBT Center's Youth Services program this January. The New Year is the perfect time to clean out your closet and lend a helping hand to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth in need.
Many young LGBT people at the Center do not have warm winter clothing, nor do they have professional clothing for job interviews or to wear as they start their careers. The Center is in greatest need of jackets, coats and ponchos; hoodies; sweats; new packages of socks and underwear; travel-sized, new hygiene items (toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, feminine menstrual products, shaving items, etc.); as well as boxes of snack bars (granola). Dress pants, shirts, suits, belts, ties, and blazers are also appreciated. Clothing of all sizes is needed, from XS – 4XL.
The City of West Hollywood will be accepting items in collection bins in the courtyard at West Hollywood City Hall, located at 8300 Santa Monica Boulevard, from Monday, January 13, 2020 through Tuesday, January 21, 2020. Gift cards, preferably in $5 denomination, can be left with staff members in the City's Strategic Initiatives Division at City Hall. Please write the dollar value on the gift card. Validated parking for West Hollywood City Hall is available in the automated parking garage behind City Hall, south of Santa Monica Boulevard on Sweetzer Avenue. There is also a loading area available for quick drop-offs.
The Los Angeles LGBT Center's Youth Center supports the essential needs of LGBT young people by connecting them with health, mental health and housing services along with educational, and employment opportunities. The Center is a supportive community and a welcoming safe space for youth to connect. The City of West Hollywood's Homeless Initiative organizes the community's response to homelessness. An important strategy of the initiative is to empower community members to engage and support solutions to address homelessness; this clothing drive is an easy way for the community to participate. The Homeless Initiative is one part of City of West Hollywood's deep commitment to providing social services to improve the quality of life for community members in-need. During its 35-year history, the City has provided millions of dollars in grants to fund programs and services for seniors, people with HIV and AIDS, members of the LGBT community, people with disabilities, Russian-speaking immigrants, people who are homeless, food programs, alcohol and drug use recovery programs, and health care services for people who are uninsured.
